Best-selling author and television host P. Allen Smith joins Tennessee Home & Farm magazine as a regular columnist. Smith, an award-winning designer, gardening and lifestyle expert, hosts the public television programs ”P. Allen Smith’s Garden Style” and “P. Allen Smith Garden to Table” and the syndicated 30-minute show “P. Allen Smith Gardens.”

Smith will lend his voice and expertise to the magazine’s Gardening section, focusing on topics such as the benefits of keeping backyard chickens and tips for growing edible plants. Smith’s addition is just one of a series of changes to the magazine’s editorial and design.

The magazine, which reaches more than 650,000 Tennessee households, has been updated for 2013 with a bold, contemporary look that incorporates the use of dynamic, original photography, a vibrant color palette, inspired feature designs and added connections between the print and digital presence, including giveaways, recipes and videos accessible via its website, tnhomeandfarm.com. The magazine’s editorial content features a calendar of Tennessee events, seasonal recipes, profiles of interesting people and places, as well as contests and giveaways.

“We’re really excited about the new changes with Home & Farm. For 10 years we’ve been very honored to present Farm Bureau members with a great magazine, and we know that they’ll accept the new design with open arms – just as they did a decade ago (when Journal began publishing the magazine),” said Pettus Read, editor of the Tennessee Farm Bureau News and director of communications for the Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation. “The new look of the magazine is something to be proud of, and we hope it will also provide the opportunity to introduce more people to the benefits of being Farm Bureau members.”

Tennessee Home & Farm magazine is produced quarterly and direct mailed to members of the Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation. The magazine engages members with timely content about agriculture and the people and places that make readers proud to call Tennessee home. The website features videos, profiles of off-the-beaten path Tennessee restaurants and attractions, a digital library of past issues and an archive of recipes.

Journal Communications is a custom marketing firm, which produces ag-to-consumer publications and websites for the Tennessee Farm Bureau, the Tennessee State Department of Agriculture, the National FFA Organization and 18 other state farm bureaus and departments of agriculture.
