New cattle show in Lincoln County. Hello Welcome to Tennessee Home and Farm Radio. I’m Grace Powell

Really enjoyed getting the show at the county, regional, state, even national level.

The Elk River Classic cattle show had its inaugural show this past month at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds. 4-H and FFA students from Southern Middle Tennessee and parts of Alabama participated in the new show. Josh Ogle, President of the Lincoln County Farm Bureau says it’s important that kids in this area have the opportunity to participate in cattle shows like this one close to home

Josh Ogle
We just really want to give back to the to the kids in the community and get them involved and cattle showing is a way and not everybody plays sports not everybody does that kind of thing, so this is another avenue for a child to get involved. My son showed last year for the first year with through 4-H and loved it and Farm Bureau what better way for us to do them to something else farming to get these kids involved and introduce them to agriculture.

4-H member Clay Owen a senior from Lincoln County had a good day in the ring. He was a Senior Level II Champion Showman and showed the Champion Prospect Steer. Clay has learned many life skills by working in the barns and showing his steers

Clay Owen
Definitely working with us over cattle has really taught me a lot of work work ethic. I mean, takes hours to work to take up two hours working cows and every single day at the barn.

For some exhibitors, this was thier first time in the show ring. Show manager in Lincoln County Farm Bureau Board Member Rex Dunn is extremely happy to see this amount of involvement and is hopeful for the future.

Rex Dunn
I do I’ve seen a lot of kids show up here today or and they really didn’t wasn’t starting with their stuff. And I think they leave with a lot of confidence after today also seen kids around the ring and it didn’t participate but was involved and probably struck the interest in them participating in the future.

Hopefully participating not only in future cattle shows but also in our nation’s most important industry. For Tennessee Home and Farm Radio. I’m Grace Powell. Thanks for listening and have a great day.
