Nashville Sounds Ag Night

Oct 4, 2023 | Tennessee Farm Bureau

It’s more important now than ever that youth get involved in agriculture. With the average age of a farmer increasing each year people in the next generation will need to take their place when they retire. To help gain interest in the industry the Nashville Sounds & Tennessee Farm Bureau partnered together to give FFA & 4-H students the chance to hear directly from professionals in the Ag industry.

America’s favorite pastime and getting youth interested in America’s most important industry. Hello, and welcome to Tennessee Home and Farm Radio, I’m Thomas Capps.

Kyle Cato
It’s on us as producers and everybody in the ag community to build that interest and make it interesting for everybody to be involved in.

Thomas Capps
It’s no secret that there’s a major need for young people to get involved in agriculture. The average age of a farmer is 58 and somebody in the next generation will need to take their place when they retire. That’s why the Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation is partnering with different sports organizations to host ag nights for FFA and 4-H kids recently the Nashville sounds hosted Ag night. Youth attending got to hear from a panel of professionals in the ag industry and got to take in a sounds baseball game. Christian community White House senior case gardener is as FFA chapter president and says it was great hearing about the different opportunities as he definitely wants to pursue a career in agriculture.

Case Gardner
It’s been a real pleasure to hear this great panel and just gained so much knowledge that I can use for my future. I’m not sure specifically which niche as Mr. Jason said he falls into so that may take some time. But definitely I would love to be in an agriculture career.

Carl Kato works for Catesa Farms in Riddleton Tennessee. He was a member of the panel and shared with the youth how much he enjoys his job and the importance of it.

Kyle Cato
I think it’s great that all the kids are wanting to get involved because agriculture right now is less than 2% of the population and if it’s going to continue we got to have more involved.

Thomas Capps
Jason Searles with Coleman Tractor was also a panelist and says he helps the youth understand just how many opportunities are available in the field of agriculture.

Jason Searles
There’s so many career opportunities to be involved in agriculture without really being directly involved in production there’s sales and service and, and parts and working on as well as producing and marketing and communicating getting to show these young youths that there are so many opportunities that perhaps they’ve not even thought about yet. I think is so important.
