More than 4,500 farmers and ranchers from across the country are gathered in Salt Lake City, Utah this week for the 105th Annual American Farm Bureau Convention.

Amy Beckham: New Frontiers in Utah. Hello there and welcome to Tennessee Home and Farm Radio, I’m Amy Beckham.

Eric Mayberry: A tremendous opportunity to bring our folks from Tennessee to a different venue, a different part of the country that we don’t get to see very often, and do the work of our most important industry – agriculture. It’s great to get all the folks from all across the country and Puerto Rico and get them together and discuss those issues and to make the world a better place to live.

Amy Beckham: Well, more than 4,500 farmers and ranchers from across the country are gathered in Salt Lake City, Utah this week for the 105th annual American Farm Bureau Convention. Tennessee was proud to bring 180 from the Volunteer State, and Tennessee Farm Bureau President Eric Mayberry shares why the event is always critical to agriculture.

Eric Mayberry: It is our one opportunity a year to get together and set that policy for the coming year. It can be a challenge sometimes because just like in our state, you know, we have different issues from one end of the state to the other. And so it is across America, you know, but we get done. We compromise and we talk it out and we work it out. And you know, in addition to doing that important work, lots of educational opportunities, get to support our young farmers in their contest, the women have got their thing going on. It’s just a wonderful time to get everybody together all across this nation and celebrate agriculture and then do good work as well.

Amy Beckham: Just like President Mayberry, Lou Nave looks forward to the convention every year. She serves on the State Women’s Leadership Committee and has also represented the southern region on the National Committee for more than six years now.

Lou Nave: Anytime we can surround ourselves with other people that have the same passion and commitment to agriculture. We feed upon that, we grow that enthusiasm, that commitment to agriculture, and women and advocacy are working really hard. So, our Farm Bureau women are working really hard to make sure we share our message about agriculture, share our knowledge with those outside of agriculture, and that’s our job. So, we build upon the things that everybody’s doing, we bring our skills together and then we take those back into our communities.

Amy Beckham: We’ll share more updates from Utah in the coming days. Thanks for joining us everyone, for Tennessee Home and Farm Radio, I’m Amy Beckham.
