
The Tennessee Cattlemen’s Association (TCA) held its 40th annual convention in Murfreesboro on January 24-25. During the convention, the association recognized several individuals for their significant contributions to the Tennessee cattle industry at the annual awards luncheon.
The award recipients were selected through a nomination process and were chosen based on the honorees’ outstanding achievements, dedication to the industry, and contributions to the community.
“These awards are not just about recognizing past accomplishments,” said Charles Hord, TCA Executive Vice President. “They are about inspiring the next generation of cattle producers and showcasing the incredible talent and dedication within our industry. By honoring these individuals, we are celebrating the heart and soul of Tennessee agriculture.”
These individuals are the 2024 winners:
TCA President’s Award: Wendy Sneed of Cannon County was honored for her dedication to service and impactful career in the Tennessee livestock industry. Wendy consistently looks for ways to volunteer and help guide producers in their agricultural fields.
Tennessee CattleWomen’s Association CattleWoman of the Year: Kathryn Ingram of Monroe County was recognized for her contributions and leadership in her community. Ingram exemplifies the strength and determination of women in agriculture, serving as a role model for young women pursuing careers in this vital sector.
TCA’s Legislator of the Year Award: Congressman John Rose of Tennessee’s 6th District was recognized for his strong support of the Tennessee cattle industry and his consistent advocacy for policies that benefit cattle producers.
Dr. Emmit Rawls Outstanding Stocker Producer Award: John West of Hickman County was recognized for his exceptional stocker operation and his long-standing contributions to the TCA.
Dr. Clyde Lane Outstanding Cow-Calf Producer Award: Tracy Vannatta of Bedford County was honored for implementing innovative conservation practices while maintaining a successful cow-calf operation.
Dr. Jim Neel Outstanding Work in Adult Education Award: John Teague of Bedford County was recognized for his 43-year career with UT Extension, inspiring countless young people and contributing significantly to the cattle industry.
Lafayette Williams Business Person of the Year Award: Todd Jennings of Moore County was honored for his long and successful career in the animal health industry, consistently supporting cattle producers and promoting best practices.
John Bartee Distinguished Service Award: Dan Pearman of Claiborne County was recognized for his extraordinary efforts in assisting fellow cattle producers impacted by Hurricane Helene through his “Farmers Helping Farmers” initiative.
Outstanding 4-H Award: Chris Mackey of Unicoi County was honored for his outstanding leadership and dedication to developing the next generation of cattle leaders through the 4-H program.
Friend of TCA Award: Kevin Rose of Giles County was recognized for his significant contributions to the Giles County cattle industry, including his work with the Giles County Beef Alliance and his support of local producers.
The convention concluded with a renewed focus on the future of the Tennessee cattle industry. “We are proud of the accomplishments of our members and the strength of our industry,” said Gary Dering, President of the Tennessee Cattlemen’s Association. “Looking ahead, we will continue to advocate for policies that support sustainable and profitable cattle production, while ensuring the long-term viability of our industry for generations to come.”
