Tennessee Forestry Association Celebrates National Forest Products Week

Published: Oct. 19, 2021

The Tennessee Forestry Association (TFA) is proud to celebrate National Forest Products week, October 17-23. The third week of October has historically been recognized as “National Forest Products” by proclamation of President John F. Kennedy in 1960.

In Tennessee, we celebrate the 98,000+ individuals who work in the forest products industry throughout our state.  Many of these Tennesseans reside and work in the rural parts of our state.  The wood products industry contributes $24 billion annually to Tennessee’s economy.  Much of the economic impact is vital to the distressed and economically at-risk counties in the Volunteer State.

The Tennessee Forest Products industry is committed to providing jobs as well as managing our forest for future sustainability.  The over 500,000 Tennessee forest landowners and 2,000+ Master Loggers are also vital to ensuring the future of our sawmills, papermills and other manufacturing facilities.  The products made in Tennessee such as lumber, paper, boxes, flooring, pallets, as well as many other products are made by renewable and recyclable resources.

In small and large communities in Tennessee, families depend on the wood products industry to raise their families as well as support civic and community programs.  Small businesses such as groceries, restaurants, garages, etc. depend on the local wood industry to keep the doors open and lights on.  The Tennessee Forestry Association is proud to continue to work to build new markets for the wood products industry to ensure jobs in rural communities and to encourage landowners to grow the healthy forests for the future.  Our Tennessee forests provide income, clean water, wildlife habitat and aesthetics.
